The other day in the car on the way to church I mentioned a saying that my parents use to say. Ron had no idea what I was talking about. He had never heard of the saying and couldn't come close to telling me what it meant. So I began to wonder what other sayings have I heard all my life that others don't know? And what other things do I consider completely normal that others may not? So here's the beginning of my list starting with the one from the car (and I say beginning because now that this has come to my attention I will be on the lookout for more):
Sayings:
(1) Don't bite your nose off to spite your face. (this is similar to "Don't shoot yourself in the foot" which, by the way, is one Ron knew)
(2) You can fight a bear that long. (My Nanny used to say this to me. She used it when I was complaining about something. It's like, "Hang in there you can handle it.")
Everyday Living:
(3) Until recently I didn't know that every house does not make and drink tea everyday. Nor did I know that what I was drinking all my life is largely called sweet tea in many places.
(4) Chicken and dumplings is not a dinner that everyone knows. (although I don't know why because it's SOOOO good.)
To be continued...
